Hell is Real.

I have focused a lot on this one verse recently, it is humbling to think that all of Heaven is concerned over such a small number. Luke 15:7 says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent” (NIV).

It is no surprise that in this life at some point death will follow each of us. I have sat and talked with friends and loved ones over the years who have shared with me how as we get older it is heart breaking to watch your childhood friends, family members and loved ones pass away one by one.

For us as believers, this should stir us to our core and push us to share Jesus with our loved ones and everyone we come into contact with. As believers we should have a fire inside of us to see our friends, loved ones, neighbors and everyone to be saved and have a personal relationship with Jesus.

The truth is everyone one day will face the judgment. You will either go to a place that Jesus has stated that He prepared for us called Heaven or you will go to a place called Hell.

It’s not easy, to go to Heaven, but worth the journey! On the other hand, it is easy to deny and reject Jesus and to go to hell.

In our Bibles we gain an understanding of the beauties and benefits offered in Heaven. Heaven is described as a beautiful place, a place where those who believed and have gone before us are waiting, a place without tears, a place without sickness, but a place of rejoicing and worship and a place where the Bible says that God will be.

The Bible says in the Parable of the Wedding Feast found in Matthew 22:1-14, that the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So, he said to him, “Friend, how do you come in here without a wedding garment?” (Matthew 22:11) Then the king said to the servants, “Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 22:13). The man in this story was not ready, prepared, or appropriate at the wedding, and the king said to bind him and cast him out. Friends, this is how judgment will be, this is why we understand that the angels will rejoice over ONE sinner who is saved, they have seen how awful this place called hell is.

Hell is described as a place of torment, fires that do not quench, a place without satisfaction, a place with weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Why is hell so awful?

One, it was created for satan and his demons.

Secondly, because people don’t realize that hell is the absence of God.

There’s no air in hell…because God is a breath of life.
Genesis says that God breathed the breath of life into man (Genesis 2:7).

There is no peace in hell…because God is the prince of peace. (Isaiah 9)

There is no comfort in hell…because God is the comforter. (2 Corinthians 1:3)

There is no love in hell…because God is love. (1 John 4:16

Hell is darkness…because God is the light. (John 9:5)

Friends, know this today as your read this, you don’t have to go there! Hell was never intended for you from the beginning. God sent His son for you, to keep you free from this place, and to keep you free from the grip and destruction of sin.

But there is only one way to escape it, and that is through salvation in the name of Jesus Christ. You have to make that decision. No one else can choose for you, you are the only one that can accept Him in your heart and confess Him with your mouth.

You say “I BELIEVE”… God Asks: “DO YOU TRUST”
James 2:19 You believest that there is one God; You do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

You say “I PRAYED A PRAYER”… God Asks: “HAVE YOUSURRENDERED?”
Matthew 7:22 Many will say tome in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

You say “I AM A GOOD PERSON”…God says “NO ONE IS GOOD”
Romans 3:10, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Friends, I want to encourage you today that if you have not given your heart to Jesus and surrendered to Him to make the decision to follow Christ. Hell was never intended for you, but Heaven was!

There are far too many people in hell today who are begging for one more chance, begging for one more invite to church, begging for one more opportunity to go to the altar. If you believe that there is a God, and that there is a Heaven, then believe that there is a Hell.

If you are reading this today, know that I love you and more importantly that God loves you. Accept Jesus as the Lord of your life, and choose to follow Him, and live for Him.

Blessings,
Pastor Jonathan Pannell

  1. You caught my attention a few years ago with this sermon when I attended Emmanuel for a recognition service and I decided then that we should try your church and have been there ever since.
