I am weak today…

It is easy for us to lose focus in our time of weakness and destress. Usually, we can be pretty good at keeping it together at least on really good days, but sometimes we really tempted to lose focus on our weak days. I love the stories we read in passages from 1 Samuel to 2 Samuel, they share some great insights about what these folks faced in battel and their emotions, actions, and reactions.

For example, in 1 Samuel 13:13-23 we read and understand that Samuel told Saul he was being foolish and not been obedient to the Lord. As you continue on, we know that there was a battle that was raging, and the people were in a very interesting and yet very difficult situation… they were about to go into battle and there were no weapons… I can see where that could be a problem…

As you read on you will notice they gathered up all that they could and many held gardening tools (hoes, plows, etc.) and they then set out in faith to meet the enemy. Psalms 20:7 tells us, “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God” (NASB).

In 1 Samuel 13:14 Samuel tells Saul that his kingdom shall come to an end and that “the Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart”. This man was David.

But David also although promised by God to rule, had his moments of weakness and struggles. We know that 2 Samuel 3 opens describing that there was a “long war between the house of Saul and the house of David” what I do love in this verse is how it says that “David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker” (2 Samuel 3:1). David being secretly anointed to be King of Israel by Samuel, running for his life, haunted, and fear of a jealous king trying to kill him, David faced plenty of his own challenges and struggles along the way.

We know that David was to be ruler over Israel, but there was a snag. At the time Israel was divided into two tribes and kingdoms. A southern tribe and a northern tribe and kingdom. Now David was anointed king and ruler over the Southern tribe. But the northern tribes had someone else. Essentially, they were divided like North Carolina and South Carolina or North Dakota and South Dakota. Each of the two Kingdoms had their own militaries and military leader.

David’s military leader was Joab, and the other guy’s military leader was named Abner.

Well interesting story, Abner and his king got into an argument and Abner goes to turn his back on his king and sends message over to David saying, David, “Whose land, is it? Make an agreement with me, and I will help you bring all Israel over to you.” (2 Samuel 3:12). David now has an option to fulfill his destiny and “calling” to be ruler over all of Israel and not just half of it.

Everything was GREAT, except… there was suddenly now a problem…

Joab and Abner we not on good terms, seeing that Abner has killed Joab’s brother (Asahel). Joab takes Abner away from everyone to speak with him and kills him (2 Samuel 3:26-27).

Everything was going great but unforgiveness got in the way. I could only imagine what David felt, as he mourned, as everything he hoped for was shattered, and was falling to pieces around him (2 Samuel 3:31-39). In this moment David said this profound statement, “I am weak today, through anointed king” (2 Samuel 3:39 NKVJ).

You must remember that no mater what you face in life, don’t forget who you are in the Lord. You can be weak, but do not forget that you are still anointed. You can be weak and still have the authority of King.

Notice how David said that he was weak “today”, I believe this is significant because he would not always be weak. I may be weak today… but I will not be weak tomorrow… I may be weak today, but I will not be weak this time next year…

I may be weak, but I am not defeated.

I am still anointed.

Child of God keep your head up! You may be weak today, but you are still anointed! Your Bible says that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5).

My prayer for you today, is that no matter what you are facing. No matter how surrounded you may feel. No matter how under equipped you may seem. And no matter if everything seems to be falling apart around you. Stay Focused.

Friend, you may be weak today… but you are still anointed.

Remember, “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) Stay focused, keep pushing, and in all things trust in the Lord.

Blessings,
